Virender Sehwag on Handling the Pressure of the 2011 ODI World

Image
The former batsman of the Indian team, Virendra Sehwag, has a piece of advice for Rohit Sharma to lead the Indian cricket team before the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023. Sehwag, who was part of the India team that won the World Cup in 2011, revealed how the team approached the tournament both on and off the field and also highlighted the importance of captain MS Dhoni and head coach Gary Kirsten. Sehwag said, "When we had a team meeting, we decided we wouldn't read newspapers and wouldn't listen to outside noise. Anything that can add pressure, we won't do. It had become a rule, and almost everyone genuinely followed it. We stayed together; we tried to enjoy ourselves and do team-building exercises. Because it's easy to drift apart in long tournaments such as these. Gary Kirsten and MS Dhoni ensured that we stayed together.” Sehwag revealed how Dhoni encouraged the team to follow the process, which eventually led to the second ODI World Cup victory for India and th...

Rohit Sharma Answers: Can Ashwin Replace Axar in the World Cup Squad?

Image
On Tuesday, the captain of the Indian team, Rohit Sharma, did not divulge any details on the status of injured Axar Patel but said the rhythm Ravichandran Ashwin showed in the first two ODIs has assured him of backup options for the World Cup in case of an eventuality. Patel had suffered a left quadriceps injury before the finals of the Asia Cup against Sri Lanka earlier this month and is currently recuperating at the NCA. The performance of Ashwin in the first two ODIs against Australia has also sparked the debate over whether the veteran off-spinner should make it to India's 15-member squad if Patel fails to recover in time. During the pre-match press conference, while talking about the chances of Ashwin replacing Axar Rohit, he said, “He has got the class. He has the experience of playing the sport and handling the pressure. It is just that he has not played ODIs in the last year or so.” He also said, “But you cannot take away the class and the experience the individual has gain...

According to AB de Villiers Shubman, Gill will be the World Cup's leading run scorer

Image
AB de Villiers has predicted that the opener of the India cricket team, Shubman Gill, is going to be the leading run-getter of the ODI World Cup. He further described the comeback of R. Ashwin as unbelievable and not good news for the other teams. De Villiers delved into the Shubman technique and says it is as simple as it gets. He said, “His technique and style are quite simple and basic, generally what you say about some of the best players in the world.” De Villiers further said, “You get some exception like Steve Smith, who has got a very different technique; he jumps across the crease, gets down the wicket, or gets out of the crease in the line of the bowlers channels specifically in the Test cricket, but he also dies in the ODIs. “Whereas Shubman Gill is a much more traditional, very straight-forward technique, He doesn’t try a lot of different things. He does have a lot of strength because he can change gears and put a lot of pressure on the bowlers. Ab de Villiers also said, “I...

Before ODI WC 2023, Ravichandran Ashwin gives a timely reminder of guidance and off-spinner value

Image
The brilliant performance by Ravichandran Ashwin is making a strong case for himself before the ODI World Cup 2023 while giving a timely reminder of how lethal he can be. The spotlight has been on Ravichandran Ashwin ever since he was included in the ODI squad of Team India for the three-match series against the Australian cricket team. Having picked up a solitary wicket playing only in his second ODI in six years, Ashwin followed it up with a stellar spell that left the Australian middle order in tatters as they faced an uphill battle against India in Indore. In the second ODI match, Team Australia had already lost Matthew Short and their captain before the rain break, and once play resumed, Ashwin took center stage to further hurt the handicapped visiting side. He gave a timely reminder of the guile and value of an off-spinner in India’s squad, heading into a home World Cup. Ashwin first took the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne and later dismissed David Warner as the Aussie opener was t...

The Pakistan team has announced its 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup 2023

Image
On Friday, Pakistan announced their squad for the 2023 World Cup. Naseem Shah was ruled out of the tournament because of his shoulder injury, whereas Hasan Ali, the right-arm pacer who last played in an ODI in June 2022, made a return to the squad as the replacement for Naseem. Haris Rauf, who also faced an injury in the Asia Cup, has retained his place in the squad. Babar Azam will lead the side, with Fakhar Zaman also retaining his place. PCB chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said as he announced the squad during a press conference on Friday that, “There are a lot of injury concerns for our fast bowlers. We wanted someone who has experience playing in big tournaments and can pick wickets in the middle, so we have gone with Hasan Ali.” One of the major surprises was the omission of Faheem Ashraf, and the chief selector stated that the decision was made keeping in mind the middle-over prowess in the bowling attack, as he said, “We were struggling to pick wickets in the middle overs in the ...

Former Team India Captain Dhoni Joins the Ganesh Chaturthi 2023 Celebration

Image
The positive attitude of Dhoni can light up any place. The former captain of Team India guided the team to wins at the 2011 ODI Cricket World Cup and the 2007 T20 Cricket World Cup. He is often considered one of the sharpest minds in world cricket. However, he was seen in a different avatar, as he could be seen joining a procession celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi 2023, and the video has been widely shared. Talking about the Cricket World Cup, this time, Rohit Sharma-led team India is carrying the hopes of the country. India has not won an ICC event since 2013, and the Cricket World Cup at home is a brilliant opportunity to end that drought. Playing at home comes with great pressure. Former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, who himself is a Cricket World Cup winner, had a piece of special advice for the Indian cricket team. On being asked about, "What will your advice be for the youngsters like Gill and Ishan Kishan, who will be playing their first ODI World Cup at home?" G...

Former player of team India, Irfan Pathan, makes an explosive statement about Sanju Samson

Image
The selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India has once again snubbed wicketkeeper and batsman Sanju Samson for the ODI series against Australia. While reacting to the squad announcement of Team India for the three-match series, former Team India all-rounder Irfan Pathan issued an interesting statement about power-hitter Samson. Irfan tweeted, "If I’m in place of @IamSanjuSamson right now, I will be very disappointed." Notably, two separate squads have been picked for the Australian series. In both of the squads, Samson’s name went missing as youngsters Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prasidh Krishna, and Washington Sundar were recalled for the first two One Day Internationals against Australia. Samson, who had a series of forgetful outings against the West Indies in the Caribbean, was earlier named as a backup batter in India’s Asia Cup squad. However, he was snubbed from India’s squad for the ICC World Cup as the AjitAgarkar-led selection committee handpicked KL Rahu...

As a cover for injured Axar Patel for the Asia Cup Final, Washington Sundar called up

Image
As cover for injured Axar Patel Washington Sundar has been called for the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka on Sunday. On Friday, Axar sustained several injuries during India's six-run loss to Bangladesh in their last Super Four match.  The extent of his injuries is currently unknown, and hence, bowling all-rounder Washington, who was part of India's Asian Games squad, has been called up as a precautionary measure. As per the statement by the BCCI official, "Axar is currently suffering from multiple injuries. He has hurt his little finger, got hit on the forearm by a throw from deep, and most importantly, has developed a hamstring niggle. So Washington has been called." More than the swelling on his forehand, it is the hamstring issue of Axar that will keep the Indian team management worried with just three weeks to go for the World Cup. Washington, who bowls off-spin, last played an ODI at home against New Zealand in January this year.

Image
The Indian cricket team performed brilliantly in the Asia Cup 2023 and finished in second place before Pakistan, who lost their number one ODI ranking after their elimination from the tournament. The Babar Azam-led side lost to Sri Lanka in a last-ball thriller for their second successive defeat in the Super Four and slipped to third spot with 115 points in the ICC midweek update. Homeless Pakistan Super League 2024 could clash with IPL 2024

Image
After the challenges of the Asia Cup 2023 and player contracts, the Pakistan cricket board is in trouble once again, and this time it is about the Pakistan Super  League. With the general elections in Pakistan early next year, it will be good for the Pakistan cricket board to search for a new home, but the ILT20 in January–February will make it harder to shift the PSL 2024 to the UAE. As things stand, the PSL governing council will meet on September 25 to discuss the possibilities on Venus, but as things stand, the PSL could clash with the IPL 2024. In the last season, the Pakistan Super League overlapped with the Big Bash League as well as the ILT20 and SA20. To make room for the two newly born tournaments, PSL 2023 was started on February 13 while shifting from its January-February window. But this time, PSL 2024 is searching for a new home. Although the journal elections of Pakistan were supposed to be held by November 2023, now there are chances that they can happen by February...

As India prepares to host the World Cup after a long hiatus since their 2011 victory, expectations are running high among fans. However, in the middle of the excitement and optimism, legendary India spinner Anil Kumble has raised a significant concern by highlighting a major weak link in Team India’s ODI World Cup squad. Team India recently announced a formidable squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup, garnering praise from many experts and fans alike. Rohit Sharma joins Virat Kohli in the elite list of batsmen with 10,000 runs

Image
The captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, registered a new milestone as he went past the 10,000-run mark in ODI cricket. Rohit became the second-fastest Indian to have scaled Mt. Everest, with Virat Kohli leading the charts. He reached the milestone in 241 innings, while Kohli had done so in 205 innings. Following Rohit are the likes of Sachin Tendulkar in 259 innings, Sourav Ganguly in 263 innings, and Ricky Ponting in 266 innings. After Rohit, five other Indian batsmen have gone on to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. Having scored a half-century in the last match, the Hitman also brought up his fifty in the match against Sri Lanka. As Rohit Sharma won the toss, he decided to bat first, with the team making only one change, with spin all-rounder Axar Patel coming in for pacer Shardul Thakur. On the other hand, Sri Lanka remained unchanged from their last match against Bangladesh.

Gambhir praised this youngster for his amazing performance in the Ind vs. Pak Super Four Clash

Image
Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir praised Shubhmna Gill for her amazing performance during the super four-stage match against Pakistan. Gill smashed 58 runs in 52 deliveries as India scored 147 runs at the loss of two wickets in 24.1 overs after being asked to bat first at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday, September 10. The match was halted because of rain and will be continued from the same stage on the reserve day, Monday. During a discussion, Gambhir was asked about the attack of Gill on Shaheen Shah Afridi, to which he responded, "The conditions were also different. The conditions you got in Kandy, you won't get in Colombo. It was overcast in Kandy, but it was quite sunny when Shaheen Shah Afridi started in Colombo. If the ball doesn't swing much, Shubman Gill can be extremely attacking." The former opener of team India pointed out that the youngster alleviated the pressure on Rohit Sharma, saying, "You didn't get to see much swing, but I believe the way S...

The India ODI World Cup 2023 squad has been announced

Image
On Tuesday, the Team India ODI World Cup 2023 Squad, which was announced by the BCCI Chairman of the Selectors, Ajit Agarkar, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav, found a place. But Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravichandran Ashwin failed to make the cut. The deadline for all cricket boards to disclose their squads was September 5th, exactly one month before the opening match of the tournament.  While most teams have promptly finalized their 15-member squads, Team India chose to maintain suspense until today. Nevertheless, it is highly unlikely that there will be any last-minute changes. The World Cup squad of Team India closely resembles the roster of players currently participating in the Asia Cup campaign, with a few exceptions. Tilak Varma, Prasidh Krishna, and Sanju Samson are the likely candidates to face exclusion from the squad, although there is a possibility that these three may be designated as reserves and stand-by players.
