Ahead of his tour to India, Ben Stokes undergoes successful knee surgery

Image
The all-rounder of the England cricket team, Ben Stokes, announced that his knee surgery was successful, and now it is time for him to undergo rehabilitation. Recently, Stokes has come out of ODI retirement in order to participate in the ICC ODI men's cricket world cup 2023, where he played as a specialist batter. The issue with his knee has prevented him from playing as an all-rounder effectively, as he has rarely bowled as of late. Stokes said in his tweet, “In and out under the knife done, rehab starts now.” Stokes did come back from his ODI retirement for the team, but his comeback didn't help the three lions defend their World Cup title. They delivered an underwhelming title campaign, as they have won only three out of nine matches they have played. Although they got a spot to play in the Champions Trophy 2025, the highly feared batting lineup of England failed to live up to its hype.

Namibia Secures Their Berth at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA

Image
The perfect record of five victories for Namibia in five matches has helped them confirm their spot in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. The Eagles currently sit on top of the table with 10 points, with their victory against Tanzania ensuring a top-two finish, which is required to qualify for the mega showpiece event that is going to be held next year. The fight for the remaining spot is still on, with Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria still in the reckoning. Uganda and Kenya hold their destiny in their hands, while Zimbabwe and Nigeria rely on favorable outcomes in other matches. This will be the third edition in a row that Namibia will be playing in the Men's T20 World Cup. In 2021, they managed to make it to the Super Bowl after finishing second in the group stage, but they failed to replicate their same performance last year.

Emotional Remark of Ishan Kishan's on Losing a Playing XI Spot at the 2023 World Cup

Image
On Sunday night, Team India produced a brilliant effort against Australia, defeating the visitors by 44 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series in Thiruvananthapuram. After being invited to bat, India made a solid start thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal, who smashed a half-century in 24 balls before Ishan Kishan (52) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (58) also smashed crucial fifties, taking team India to a mammoth score of 235 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. In return, the Aussies could only reach 191 runs at a loss of nine wickets. Following the victory of India in the second T20I, Ishan opened up about spending time on the sidelines and eventually enduring the heartbreak in the final. The left-hander stated that it was important for him to remain fresh despite not playing regularly. Ishan said, “It is all hunger when you are not a part of a great team. We played like champions at the World Cup. I was feeling bad, but you can't help it. In international cricket, times will co...

Ian Chappell Blunt Dig at the Resignation of Babar Azam as Team Pakistan Captain

Image
Last week, the captain of Pakistan, Babar Azam, stepped down as captain of the national team across all three formats of the game. His decision came shortly after the side's disappointing exit from the 2023 World Cup, where it finished fifth. Pakistan faced defeats to arch-rivals India as well as Afghanistan, while facing narrow losses to South Africa and eventual champions Australia as well. While his successor in ODIs is yet to be announced, Shaheen Afridi will now lead Pakistan in T20Is, while Shan Masood was named the skipper in Tests. Ahead of the series, former Australia batter Ian Chappell spoke about Babar stepping down as captain and made an interesting remark on Pakistan cricket; the former Aussie skipper stated that it is “typical” of Pakistan to keep changing captains. Chappell said, "Yeah, that’s a pity; I think Babar’s a very good player. He’s not leaving the Pakistan side, and maybe they can find a better captain. But it’s typical of Pakistan; they change captai...

Sunil Gavaskar's No-Nonsense Verdict on 'BCCI Interference in Pitch Selection'

Image
The hopes of team India of winning a third World Cup title and ending a 12-year drought for an ICC trophy came to a tame end last week as Australia defeated the Rohit Sharma-led side by six wickets in the final. The dominance of Team Blue throughout the tournament, where they won 10 games on the trot, including a 70-run win over New Zealand in the semi-final, came to an end in the final, thanks to brilliant bowling and fielding exploits from the Australians. The road for India to the World Cup final was also overshadowed by a "pitch swapping" controversy after reports claimed that the ICC head curator had accused the BCCI of changing the track for the semi-final against the Kiwis. However, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has labelled the accusations as "pretty irrelevant". Gavaskar said, "The accusation of BCCI interference in the selection of the pitches for India matches again was pretty irrelevant, as the ICC pitch consultant was around, and only after t...

Ex-cricketer Aakash Chopra on the omission of Yuzvendra Chahal from India's squad for the T20I series vs. Australia

Image
Aakash Chopra, a former player of Team India, has raised questions about the exclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal from Team India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Australia, implying that the selectors are looking beyond him. The Men in Blue will lock horns with the Australian cricket team in a five-match series, with the first game to be played in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. Chahal and Sanju Samson are a couple of the prominent names missing in the Indian squad recently picked by the selectors. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra was taken aback by Chahal's non-selection. He said, "Ravi Bishnoi is there, but Yuzi isn't. It's a slightly surprising thing to me that you have virtually turned your back on him. You neither played him in ODI cricket nor are you keeping his name for T20Is. Is he not good enough anymore?" He also added that "you start getting a feeling like that, which is not a good feeling because Yuzi Chahal has done well. It seem...

An ex-player of Pakistan Slams KL Rahul For Snarling World Cup Final Show

Image
Despite being the best team in the tournament, the Indian cricket team suffered an embarrassing defeat to Australia in the final of the Cricket World Cup 2023 on Sunday. The Aussies completely outplayed the hosts, be it in bowling, batting, or fielding, with Tavis Head's ton sealing the team's fate in history. As pundits reflect on what went wrong for India in the title battle, former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik was quick to point a finger at KL Rahul. The poor strike rate of the wicketkeeper batter's in the middle order, as per Malik, cost India the game. Shoaib Malik said in a chat that "KL Rahul was just trying to bat through the 50 overs. He should not have done that, and he should have tried to play his game. If you're batting in tough conditions and the boundaries aren't coming easily, then at least you've got to rotate strike. That wasn't happening; there were a lot of dot balls.” He further added that “he has been taking a lot of responsibilit...

Ex-Indian batsman Dilip Vengsarkar praises Indian Super Star Virat Kohli

Image
Former batsman of Indian cricket team Dilip Vengsarkar praises Virat Kohli's "biggest legacy," and his impact on Indian cricket is the fitness culture the fittest cricket personality has managed to establish since his captaincy tenure. Kohli held an inspirational presence in terms of performances and fitness and laid the benchmark for other cricketers in the squad, with the much-documented introduction of the yo-yo test as one of the metrics for selection. Vengsarkar, whose time period as BCCI's ex-chief selector is renowned for fighting in favor of Kohli's maiden international appearance back in 2008 above the then cricket board head N Srinivasan's preferred choice, Subramaniam Badrinath, spoke in glowing praise of the man he recognized well before Indian cricket's top brass did. Image
In the 2023 World Cup, India became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals after defeating Sri Lanka by 302 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Thursday. While the fast bowlers of Team India ripped through Sri Lanka's batting and bowled them out for just 55 runs, star batter Shreyas Iyer's return to form was the highlight of the dominant win for India. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was impressed with the intent shown by the batter and said he wasn't concerned about himself during the match. Gavaskar said, "I think Nasser mentioned earlier that he wasn't playing for his place in the team. He was looking to get the scoreboard ticking; he was looking to play the big shots. So he really wasn't concerned about himself, you know? Yes, there were question marks about his place on the team, but he just put them to rest because of the kind of number he bats at.  He will get to 80 quickly.” He further added that "he just needs to, maybe, at some st...

Having already managed to beat England and Pakistan in the group stage, Afghanistan were clear favorites to win against the Netherlands. Tasked with chasing 180, the Afghans did not have the best start, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz 10 departing early in the first powerplay. His opening partner, Ibrahim Zadran (20), also did not last long before he was scalped by veteran Roelof van der Merwe on the first ball after the first powerplay. However, Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi then laid the founda...
